I'm devon, and i'll be your teacher!
I started out in photography not knowing ANYTHING about a DSLR camera, editing, posing, photography in general... or running a business. But I was determined to learn so I taught myself everything I needed to know of many years. Over the years I became a professional wedding and portrait photographer and was able to go full-time with my business in 2019. I survived Covid as a small business owner with a service based business and am still growing more as a photographer and a coach!

My goal today is to make learning how to create beautiful images much easier for you.

January 12th - February 16th
This week we will learn all about the Exposure Triangle and how your camera works! We will learn shooting in Manual and how to utilize and understand you ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed, Focus, and more! This is the beginning stepping stone to photography. Without knowing how to use your main tool as a photographer, you'll continue to struggle to nail your images!
POV: You’re ready to feel confident in your images and call yourself a photographer!

Light is EVERYTHING when it comes to photography! This week plays off knowing your settings and goes hand in hand with the exposure triangle. When shooting you'll be settings your camera settings for the lighting situation you have indoors or outdoors. Finding the light, seeing where it is, using the light, and following the light is KEY to success as a photographer.
Composition, or framing, is a skill that is really going to elevate your work as a photographer. Knowing how to see framing in nature, how to understand the rule of thirds, how to make sure you are taking in all that you see through the view finder... this is all one big step to shooting well. We don't want anyone's shoulders, legs, ankles, elbows or heads cut out of the frame!
What does Click & Learn Academy look like?
Let's look at the 6 week semester...
As you nail down your settings and see your light and compose a frame... you'll also be working on posing your clients! Most people who are in front of your camera are going to need guidance. It can be embarrassing when you are with a client, whether it is one person, two people, or a whole family... and you don't know what to tell them to do! Posing can make or break an image!
The show isn't over after the session ends! Some of the real magic happens behind the scenes during the post processing work. Anyone can put a filter on an image and call it a day. A photographer is one that can put their style and creative vision on an image while editing to make it their own. No work is finished until it's edited! This is what can visually set you apart from others!
After we have learned everything we need to know when it comes to photography basics, we then will get to actually USE THOSE skills with a real life model call! I'll be there helping you nail your settings, utilize different angles, look for the light, and pose your clients. This will be great for hands on, in the moment questions and troubleshooting! We will then finish with a fun graduation party!

There is something special about the photography community in Knoxville. I can't fully explain it, but I've been in the industry here for a long time and if you put yourself out there and meet other photographers, you're chance at growing is much better.
This was just one of the reasons why I felt the need and growing desire to start an IN-PERSON school here in Knoxville. One that doesn't just teach you practical photography skills, but also gives you an opportunity to join an amazing photography community!

This studio space, located in North Knoxville on Merchants Road across from the Knoxville Expo Center, was opened by two local small business women in 2023 for entrepreneurs, creators, and small businesses to use as they see fit. It is a studio for local business owners, new and established, to hold workshops, events, classes, meetings, whatever you need!
I'm excited that the Click & Learn Academy classes will be held at a local entrepreneurial space called, The Hub Pro Studio!
